بِسْمِbismiٱللَّهِllāhiٱلرَّحْمَٰنِr-raḥmāniٱلرَّحِيمِr-raḥīmIn the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.لَآlā~أُقْسِمُ'uqsimuبِهَٰذَاbihāḏāٱلْبَلَدِl-balad١(1)I swear by this land.وَأَنتَwa'antaحِلُّۢḥillunبِهَٰذَاbihāḏāٱلْبَلَدِl-balad٢(2)And you are a resident of this land.وَوَالِدٖwawālidinوَمَاwamāوَلَدَwalad٣(3)And by a father and what he fathered.لَقَدْlaqadخَلَقْنَاḵalaqnāٱلْإِنسَٰنَl-'insānaفِىfīكَبَدٍkabad٤(4)We created man in distress.أَيَحْسَبُ'ayaḥsabuأَن'anلَّنlanيَقْدِرَyaqdiraعَلَيْهِʕalayhiأَحَدٞ'aḥad٥(5)Does he think that no one has power over him?يَقُولُyaqūluأَهْلَكْتُ'ahlaktuمَالٗاmālanلُّبَدًاlubadā٦(6)He says, “I have used up so much money.”أَيَحْسَبُ'ayaḥsabuأَن'anلَّمْlamيَرَهُۥٓyarahū~أَحَدٌ'aḥad٧(7)Does he think that no one sees him?أَلَمْ'alamنَجْعَلnajʕalلَّهُۥlahūعَيْنَيْنِʕaynayn٨(8)Did We not give him two eyes?وَلِسَانٗاwalisānanوَشَفَتَيْنِwašafatayn٩(9)And a tongue, and two lips?وَهَدَيْنَٰهُwahadaynāhuٱلنَّجْدَيْنِn-najdayn١٠(10)And We showed him the two ways?فَلَاfalāٱقْتَحَمَqtaḥamaٱلْعَقَبَةَl-ʕaqabah١١(11)But he did not brave the ascent.وَمَآwamā~أَدْرَىٰكَ'adrākaمَاmāٱلْعَقَبَةُl-ʕaqabah١٢(12)And what will explain to you what the ascent is?فَكُّfakkuرَقَبَةٍraqabah١٣(13)The freeing of a slave.أَوْ'awإِطْعَٰمٞ'iṭʕāmunفِىfīيَوْمٖyawminذِىḏīمَسْغَبَةٖmasḡabah١٤(14)Or the feeding on a day of hunger.يَتِيمٗاyatīmanذَاḏāمَقْرَبَةٍmaqrabah١٥(15)An orphan near of kin.أَوْ'awمِسْكِينٗاmiskīnanذَاḏāمَتْرَبَةٖmatrabah١٦(16)Or a destitute in the dust.ثُمَّṯummaكَانَkānaمِنَminaٱلَّذِينَllaḏīnaءَامَنُوا۟'āmanūوَتَوَاصَوْا۟watawāṣawبِٱلصَّبْرِbiṣ-ṣabriوَتَوَاصَوْا۟watawāṣawبِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِbil-marḥamah١٧(17)Then he becomes of those who believe, and advise one another to patience, and advise one another to kindness.أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ'ulā~'ikaأَصْحَٰبُ'aṣḥābuٱلْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanah١٨(18)These are the people of happiness.وَٱلَّذِينَwallaḏīnaكَفَرُوا۟kafarūبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاbi'āyātināهُمْhumأَصْحَٰبُ'aṣḥābuٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِl-maš'amah١٩(19)But as for those who defy Our revelations—these are the people of misery.عَلَيْهِمْʕalayhimنَارٞnārunمُّؤْصَدَةُۢmu'ṣadah٢٠(20)Upon them is a padlocked Fire.
