بِسْمِbismiٱللَّهِllāhiٱلرَّحْمَٰنِr-raḥmāniٱلرَّحِيمِr-raḥīmIn the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.عَبَسَʕabasaوَتَوَلَّىٰٓwatawallā~١(1)He frowned and turned away.أَن'anجَآءَهُjā~'ahuٱلْأَعْمَىٰl-'aʕmā٢(2)When the blind man approached him.وَمَاwamāيُدْرِيكَyudrīkaلَعَلَّهُۥlaʕallahūيَزَّكَّىٰٓyazzakkā~٣(3)But how do you know? Perhaps he was seeking to purify himself.أَوْ'awيَذَّكَّرُyaḏḏakkaruفَتَنفَعَهُfatanfaʕahuٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓḏ-ḏikrā~٤(4)Or be reminded, and the message would benefit him.أَمَّا'ammāمَنِmaniٱسْتَغْنَىٰstaḡnā٥(5)But as for him who was indifferent.فَأَنتَfa'antaلَهُۥlahūتَصَدَّىٰtaṣaddā٦(6)You gave him your attention.وَمَاwamāعَلَيْكَʕalaykaأَلَّا'allāيَزَّكَّىٰyazzakkā٧(7)Though you are not liable if he does not purify himself.وَأَمَّاwa'ammāمَنmanجَآءَكَjā~'akaيَسْعَىٰyasʕā٨(8)But as for him who came to you seeking.وَهُوَwahuwaيَخْشَىٰyaḵšā٩(9)In awe.فَأَنتَfa'antaعَنْهُʕanhuتَلَهَّىٰtalahhā١٠(10)To him you were inattentive.كَلَّآkallā~إِنَّهَا'innahāتَذْكِرَةٞtaḏkirah١١(11)Do not. This is a Lesson.فَمَنfamanشَآءَšā~'aذَكَرَهُۥḏakarahū١٢(12)Whoever wills, shall remember it.فِىfīصُحُفٖṣuḥufinمُّكَرَّمَةٖmukarramah١٣(13)On honorable pages.مَّرْفُوعَةٖmarfūʕatinمُّطَهَّرَةِۭmuṭahharah١٤(14)Exalted and purified.بِأَيْدِىbi'aydīسَفَرَةٖsafarah١٥(15)By the hands of scribes.كِرَامِۭkirāminبَرَرَةٖbararah١٦(16)Noble and devoted.قُتِلَqutilaٱلْإِنسَٰنُl-'insānuمَآmā~أَكْفَرَهُۥ'akfarahū١٧(17)Perish man! How thankless he is!مِنْminأَىِّ'ayyiشَىْءٍšay'inخَلَقَهُۥḵalaqahū١٨(18)From what did He create him?مِنminنُّطْفَةٍnuṭfatinخَلَقَهُۥḵalaqahūفَقَدَّرَهُۥfaqaddarahū١٩(19)From a sperm drop He created him, and enabled him.ثُمَّṯummaٱلسَّبِيلَs-sabīlaيَسَّرَهُۥyassarahū٢٠(20)Then He eased the way for him.ثُمَّṯummaأَمَاتَهُۥ'amātahūفَأَقْبَرَهُۥfa'aqbarahū٢١(21)Then He puts him to death, and buries him.ثُمَّṯummaإِذَا'iḏāشَآءَšā~'aأَنشَرَهُۥ'anšarahū٢٢(22)Then, when He wills, He will resurrect him.كَلَّاkallāلَمَّاlammāيَقْضِyaqḍiمَآmā~أَمَرَهُۥ'amarahū٢٣(23)But no, he did not fulfill what He has commanded him.فَلْيَنظُرِfalyanẓuriٱلْإِنسَٰنُl-'insānuإِلَىٰ'ilāطَعَامِهِۦٓṭaʕāmihī~٢٤(24)Let man consider his food.أَنَّا'annāصَبَبْنَاṣababnāٱلْمَآءَl-mā~'aصَبّٗاṣabbā٢٥(25)We pour down water in abundance.ثُمَّṯummaشَقَقْنَاšaqaqnāٱلْأَرْضَl-'arḍaشَقّٗاšaqqā٢٦(26)Then crack the soil open. فَأَنۢبَتْنَاfa'anbatnāفِيهَاfīhāحَبّٗاḥabbā٢٧(27)And grow in it grains.وَعِنَبٗاwaʕinabanوَقَضْبٗاwaqaḍbā٢٨(28)And grapes and herbs.وَزَيْتُونٗاwazaytūnanوَنَخْلٗاwanaḵlā٢٩(29)And olives and dates.وَحَدَآئِقَwaḥadā~'iqaغُلْبٗاḡulbā٣٠(30)And luscious gardens.وَفَٰكِهَةٗwafākihatanوَأَبّٗاwa'abbā٣١(31)And fruits and vegetables.مَّتَٰعٗاmatāʕanلَّكُمْlakumوَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْwali'anʕāmikum٣٢(32)Enjoyment for you, and for your livestock.فَإِذَاfa'iḏāجَآءَتِjā~'atiٱلصَّآخَّةُṣ-ṣā~ḵḵah٣٣(33)But when the Deafening Noise comes to pass.يَوْمَyawmaيَفِرُّyafirruٱلْمَرْءُl-mar'uمِنْminأَخِيهِ'aḵīh٣٤(34)The Day when a person will flee from his brother.وَأُمِّهِۦwa'ummihīوَأَبِيهِwa'abīh٣٥(35)And his mother and his father.وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦwaṣāḥibatihīوَبَنِيهِwabanīh٣٦(36)And his consort and his children.لِكُلِّlikulliٱمْرِئٖmri'inمِّنْهُمْminhumيَوْمَئِذٖyawma'iḏinشَأْنٞša'nunيُغْنِيهِyuḡnīh٣٧(37)Every one of them, on that Day, will have enough to preoccupy him.وُجُوهٞwujūhunيَوْمَئِذٖyawma'iḏinمُّسْفِرَةٞmusfirah٣٨(38)Faces on that Day will be radiant.ضَاحِكَةٞḍāḥikatunمُّسْتَبْشِرَةٞmustabširah٣٩(39)Laughing and rejoicing.وَوُجُوهٞwawujūhunيَوْمَئِذٍyawma'iḏinعَلَيْهَاʕalayhāغَبَرَةٞḡabarah٤٠(40)And Faces on that Day will be covered with misery.تَرْهَقُهَاtarhaquhāقَتَرَةٌqatarah٤١(41)Overwhelmed by remorse.أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ'ulā~'ikaهُمُhumuٱلْكَفَرَةُl-kafaratuٱلْفَجَرَةُl-fajarah٤٢(42)These are the faithless, the vicious.
