بِسْمِbismiٱللَّهِllāhiٱلرَّحْمَٰنِr-raḥmāniٱلرَّحِيمِr-raḥīmIn the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.عَمَّʕammaيَتَسَآءَلُونَyatasā~'alūn١(1)What are they asking one another about?عَنِʕaniٱلنَّبَإِn-naba'iٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʕaẓīm٢(2)About the Great Event.ٱلَّذِىallaḏīهُمْhumفِيهِfīhiمُخْتَلِفُونَmuḵtalifūn٣(3)About which they disagree.كَلَّاkallāسَيَعْلَمُونَsayaʕlamūn٤(4)Surely, they will find out.ثُمَّṯummaكَلَّاkallāسَيَعْلَمُونَsayaʕlamūn٥(5)Most certainly, they will find out.أَلَمْ'alamنَجْعَلِnajʕaliٱلْأَرْضَl-'arḍaمِهَٰدٗاmihādā٦(6)Did We not make the earth a cradle?وَٱلْجِبَالَwal-jibālaأَوْتَادٗا'awtādā٧(7)And the mountains pegs?وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْwaḵalaqnākumأَزْوَٰجٗا'azwājā٨(8)And created you in pairs?وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʕalnāنَوْمَكُمْnawmakumسُبَاتٗاsubātā٩(9)And made your sleep for rest?وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʕalnāٱلَّيْلَllaylaلِبَاسٗاlibāsā١٠(10)And made the night a cover?وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʕalnāٱلنَّهَارَn-nahāraمَعَاشٗاmaʕāšā١١(11)And made the day for livelihood?وَبَنَيْنَاwabanaynāفَوْقَكُمْfawqakumسَبْعٗاsabʕanشِدَادٗاšidādā١٢(12)And built above you seven strong ones?وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʕalnāسِرَاجٗاsirājanوَهَّاجٗاwahhājā١٣(13)And placed a blazing lamp?وَأَنزَلْنَاwa'anzalnāمِنَminaٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِl-muʕṣirātiمَآءٗmā~'anثَجَّاجٗاṯajjājā١٤(14)And brought down from the clouds pouring water?لِّنُخْرِجَlinuḵrijaبِهِۦbihīحَبّٗاḥabbanوَنَبَاتٗاwanabātā١٥(15)To produce with it grains and vegetation?وَجَنَّٰتٍwajannātinأَلْفَافًا'alfāfā١٦(16)And luxuriant gardens?إِنَّ'innaيَوْمَyawmaٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣliكَانَkānaمِيقَٰتٗاmīqātā١٧(17)The Day of Sorting has been appointed.يَوْمَyawmaيُنفَخُyunfaḵuفِىfīٱلصُّورِṣ-ṣūriفَتَأْتُونَfata'tūnaأَفْوَاجٗا'afwājā١٨(18)The Day when the Trumpet is blown, and you will come in droves.وَفُتِحَتِwafutiḥatiٱلسَّمَآءُs-samā~'uفَكَانَتْfakānatأَبْوَٰبٗا'abwābā١٩(19)And the sky is opened up, and becomes gateways.وَسُيِّرَتِwasuyyiratiٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluفَكَانَتْfakānatسَرَابًاsarābā٢٠(20)And the mountains are set in motion, and become a mirage.إِنَّ'innaجَهَنَّمَjahannamaكَانَتْkānatمِرْصَادٗاmirṣādā٢١(21)Hell is lying in ambush.لِّلطَّٰغِينَlilṭṭāḡīnaمَـَٔابٗاma'ābā٢٢(22)For the oppressors, a destination.لَّٰبِثِينَlābiṯīnaفِيهَآfīhā~أَحْقَابٗا'aḥqābā٢٣(23)Where they will remain for eons.لَّاlāيَذُوقُونَyaḏūqūnaفِيهَاfīhāبَرْدٗاbardanوَلَاwalāشَرَابًاšarābā٢٤(24)They will taste therein neither coolness, nor drink.إِلَّا'illāحَمِيمٗاḥamīmanوَغَسَّاقٗاwaḡassāqā٢٥(25)Except boiling water, and freezing hail.جَزَآءٗjazā~'anوِفَاقًاwifāqā٢٦(26)A fitting requital.إِنَّهُمْ'innahumكَانُوا۟kānūلَاlāيَرْجُونَyarjūnaحِسَابٗاḥisābā٢٧(27)For they were not anticipating any reckoning.وَكَذَّبُوا۟wakaḏḏabūبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاbi'āyātināكِذَّابٗاkiḏḏābā٢٨(28)And they denied Our signs utterly.وَكُلَّwakullaشَىْءٍšay'inأَحْصَيْنَٰهُ'aḥṣaynāhuكِتَٰبٗاkitābā٢٩(29)But We have enumerated everything in writing.فَذُوقُوا۟faḏūqūفَلَنfalanنَّزِيدَكُمْnazīdakumإِلَّا'illāعَذَابًاʕaḏābā٣٠(30)So taste! We will increase you only in suffering.إِنَّ'innaلِلْمُتَّقِينَlilmuttaqīnaمَفَازًاmafāzā٣١(31)But for the righteous there is triumph.حَدَآئِقَḥadā~'iqaوَأَعْنَٰبٗاwa'aʕnābā٣٢(32)Gardens and vineyards.وَكَوَاعِبَwakawāʕibaأَتْرَابٗا'atrābā٣٣(33)And splendid spouses, well matched.وَكَأْسٗاwaka'sanدِهَاقٗاdihāqā٣٤(34)And delicious drinks.لَّاlāيَسْمَعُونَyasmaʕūnaفِيهَاfīhāلَغْوٗاlaḡwanوَلَاwalāكِذَّٰبٗاkiḏḏābā٣٥(35)They will hear therein neither gossip, nor lies.جَزَآءٗjazā~'anمِّنminرَّبِّكَrabbikaعَطَآءًʕaṭā~'anحِسَابٗاḥisābā٣٦(36)A reward from your Lord, a fitting gift.رَّبِّrabbiٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِs-samāwātiوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-'arḍiوَمَاwamāبَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumāٱلرَّحْمَٰنِۖr-raḥmāniلَاlāيَمْلِكُونَyamlikūnaمِنْهُminhuخِطَابٗاḵiṭābā٣٧(37)Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them—The Most Merciful—none can argue with Him.يَوْمَyawmaيَقُومُyaqūmuٱلرُّوحُr-rūḥuوَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُwal-malā~'ikatuصَفّٗاۖṣaffanلَّاlāيَتَكَلَّمُونَyatakallamūnaإِلَّا'illāمَنْmanأَذِنَ'aḏinaلَهُlahuٱلرَّحْمَٰنُr-raḥmānuوَقَالَwaqālaصَوَابٗاṣawābā٣٨(38)On the Day when the Spirit and the angels stand in row. They will not speak, unless it be one permitted by the Most Merciful, and he will say what is right.ذَٰلِكَḏālikaٱلْيَوْمُl-yawmuٱلْحَقُّۖl-ḥaqquفَمَنfamanشَآءَšā~'aٱتَّخَذَttaḵaḏaإِلَىٰ'ilāرَبِّهِۦrabbihīمَـَٔابًاma'ābā٣٩(39)That is the Day of Reality. So whoever wills, let him take a way back to his Lord.إِنَّآ'innā~أَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ'anḏarnākumعَذَابٗاʕaḏābanقَرِيبٗاqarībanيَوْمَyawmaيَنظُرُyanẓuruٱلْمَرْءُl-mar'uمَاmāقَدَّمَتْqaddamatيَدَاهُyadāhuوَيَقُولُwayaqūluٱلْكَافِرُl-kāfiruيَٰلَيْتَنِىyālaytanīكُنتُkuntuتُرَٰبَۢاturābā٤٠(40) We have warned you of a near punishment—the Day when a person will observe what his hands have produced, and the faithless will say, “O, I wish I were dust.”
